THE FRASER VALLEY

Fraser River & Coquihalla River

District of Hope

British Columbia - Canada

The Fraser River has been the single most important factor in the development of the Province of British Columbia. Fur traders, settlers and gold miners all used the Fraser as a main transportation route for their purposes. Until the railways made their appearance the river was the only means of moving supplies and goods. Once the trains became a fact of life river traffic declined to the point where rail and road became the only modes of surface transport being used.

Hope is where the Coquihalla River joins the Fraser and where the canyon becomes the valley. These images provide some perspective of the personality of this world class river system.
