THE FRASER VALLEY

District of Kent

Agassiz - Harrison Hot Springs - Kilby - Harrison Mills

British Columbia - Canada

The Fraser Gold Rush of 1858 attracted many individuals who made their way through this area on the way to the goldfields. Some became the original settlers. In the late 1860's agricultural businesses had been established and travellers from around the world began to come here for therapeutic baths at Harrison Hot Springs in the 1880's. Lake Harrison's claim to fame apart from the hot springs is the fact that its length of 60 kilometers makes it the largest body of fresh water in southwestern BC.

Today the local economy is based on agriculture, dairy and crops (corn & hazelnuts), as well as tourism with Harrison Hot Springs being a resort destination. Sasquatch Provincial Park is a favoured campground with many options for day trippers as well. Heritage enthusiasts come here for a visit to the Kilby Store and Farm and the Harrison Agasssiz Museum which is housed in the oldest remaining wooden train station in BC.

Harrison Hot Springs is also the site of many cultural, recreational and artistic events.
