Maple Ridge has been involved in all of the economies that developed since the birth of the Province. The fur trade, farming (crop, dairy and livestock), lumber (logging and mills), fishing, all of these and more have played a role along this part of the Fraser River.
The river was the single most important influence on the local economy until the railways made their appearance. The growth initiated by the railways led to improved road systems which resulted in the Maple Ridge of today, a community attractive to people wanting to live in a family friendly environment away from the "big city".
