Throughout the Pitt Meadows area there are dykes preventing any river or stream from overflowing. The two main bodies of water making their way through this area are the Pitt River flowing south from Pitt Lake and the Alouette River flowing southwest from Allouette Lake. The Alouette joins the Pitt just north of Lougheed Highway while the Pitt flows into the Fraser south of the highway.
The dykes are well maintained providing many kilometers of recreational hiking. There are numerous opportunities for wildlife viewing and for appreciating scenic vistas. There are a large number of access points to these dyke trails.
